mom obituary picture (1)

Carolyn Heller McCaul, Leawood, Kansas died on October 8, 2020.

Born in 1924 in San Francisco, California to Alphonise and Regina Heller, Carolyn was one of the 6 “Heller Girls”. Raised in Altadena, CA, she moved to Kansas City with the Braun engineering company in 1948 and met her husband, Donald, on the Plaza tennis courts. They were married in 1950.

A member of Village Church since 1953, she served the church in many ways, teaching church school, choir, Elder, Presbyterian Women. Carolyn especially enjoyed the church’s Mission activities, working for many years as a volunteer at the Front Porch Alliance and the Church Pantry. She also enjoyed community  involvement including tutoring in KC, Mo., and volunteering for 15 years at Children’s Mercy Hospital.

Carolyn was very active in her three children’s activities. She was in PTA at three schools and Boy Scouts Mother’s Club, and she faithfully attended tennis matches, baseball games and swimming meets.
Since Carolyn lived far from her California family, she had many friends at the Village Church, including a Duplicate Bridge group that played for 60 years and a tennis group from Leawood called the “Odds.”

Vacations were spent traveling to see California families and camping trips to state parks. In later years, Breckenridge, CO became her spot in the summer and Sanibel Island was the choice for winter months. She and Don also had several memorable trips to Europe visiting their Exchange Student Johan and his family in Finland.

Donald McCaul passed away in 2017. Carolyn is survived and so loved by her children, Kevin (and Harriette) McCaul, Fargo, ND; Connie McCaul Melhuse, Chicago, IL; and Bryan (and Susan) McCaul, Alamo, CA; along with 7 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Heaven has gained another angel. She was amazing with a beautiful heart and love of life. I will miss her, but know she is in a better place with all her love for anyone who knew her. She was my aunt and she was always encouraging me and as a little girl she told me I was exotic, when my mother had told me I was homely looking. That’s just the kind of person she was. I loved her dearly. Aunt Carolyn now your with most of your sisters and husband…celebrating eternal life with Gods himself. What a wonderful gif of love you are to all of us. I will always remember your smile and hearty laugh. Lovingly your niece Gina
