Age: 88

Elsie Mae Schellhorn, 88, a resident of Lenexa, Kansas formally from Junction City, Kansas, passed away at the Kansas City Hospice House on July 15, 2019.

Elsie was born on April 3, 1931.  Her parents were Fred and Flo Christenson

She attended Junction City Grade School and graduated from Junction City High School Valedictorian.  Also attended Stormont Vail School of Nursing and was Summa Cum Laude.  She continued her career in nursing at Greary Community Hospital for 42 plus years after her graduation.

She Married Everett A Schellhorn at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Junction City on June 7, 1953.  They lived on a farm for the next 62 years.  During this time they ranched and farmed, while she excelled in a nursing career.

Elsie was a 2 time breast cancer survivor of 39 years, served the community with mentorship and support to fellow cancer survivors.

She is survived by her children Mary L Erickson and husband Rod, Gary Schellhorn and wife Sandy, and Lori Gannan and her husband Wayne.  Three grandchildren: Kristina Pierce and her husband Steve, Jakob Johnson and Kirk Johnson.  Three Great Grandchildren: Jayde, Steve and Sebastian Pierce.

She was preceded in death by her husband Everett Schellhorn (2016), her parents, 2 brothers Larry Christenson and James Christenson and one sister Mary Rutledge.

Her memorial is private.

    Mary or Lori, When (if) you visit your mom’s grave if can plant some old daisies (our birthflower) for me. I was her co worker for many years. “Crazy Mary” and she was my country momma. Sorry about house, etc. But so thankful about “nursing home. Loved her so much.
