Fred W. LaMar
Fred LaMar was born December 27, 1941 in Alamosa, Colorado and died January 30, 2019 from Pancreatic cancer. At age 7, he was diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes and lived 77 years as an insulin dependent diabetic.
Fred graduated from Alma, KS High School in 1959 as class Valedictorian. He attended Kansas University where he earned a BA degree in 1963 and an MBA in 1965. He was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity and served as President.
He was an avid Jayhawker, a lifetime member of the Kansas Alumni Association, a friend of the Dole Institute and contributed to the Chancellor’s Club and Williams Educational Fund.
In 1965 he went to work in the Surety Bond Department of R. P. Jones and Sons and went to night school for five years to earn the professional CPCU (Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters) designation. In 1968 he joined Butler Manufacturing Company as Corporate Insurance Administrator. In 1978 he went to Farmland Industries as Director of Risk Management & Insurance, retiring in 2000.
Fred served on two local church councils, was an Insurance advisor to the Boy Scouts of America and served as a Director and President of the Kansas City Chapters of the Risk and Insurance Management Society and CPCU.
Fred is survived by his wife of 31 years, Marcia, a daughter, Lisa Filips and grandchildren, Jack Filips and Leah Filips, all of Omaha, his sister Rebecca LaMar, Encinitas, CA, step-daughters Elisa (Bob) Kascik of Titusville, NJ, Jennifer (Frank) Summers, Jim Thorpe, PA, Corrie (Chris) Allgor, Doylestown, PA along with step grandchildren Casey, Kiley and Jackson Allgor of Doylestown.
Fred was a member of the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection in Leawood, KS. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the charity of your choice.
