Gwen (Story) Wisbey

Gwen (Story) Wisbey, 95, of Shawnee, passed away peacefully on July 3rd, 2019 after a brief illness. Her mind and sense of humor still intact until the end. Gwen was born in Waverly, NE on May 8,1924 to Henry and Mattie (Fowler) Story. She was the 7th of 9 children.  She married Dale (Dude) Wisbey, on April 25, 1943. They lived in Lincoln, NE, then moved to Salina in 1958. They celebrated their 75th Wedding Anniversary in 2018.

Gwen was a homemaker and helped Dude with his business. She was active in PTA for many years, was a volunteer for Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, served on many golf committees and helped work on golf tournaments over the years. Gwen enjoyed spending time with her friends and family, playing golf, and playing bridge at the Salina Country Club, where they were members for many years.  She was the ultimate optimist and always looked for the bright side of everything.  What a great gift from God she was.

Gwen is survived by children Barbara, Dennis, Susie Hawkins and Jodi Myers (John), several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was a loving wife and mother and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale (Dude) Wisbey, March 5th, 2019, her parents, sisters Elma, Inez, Coleen, Wilma, Avis; and 3 brothers, John, Chick, Jim and son in law, Rich Hawkins.

We four children are very blessed to have had the most wonderful parents in the world (in our opinions), and we will miss them terribly but feel so fortunate to have had them in our lives as long as we did.

Thank you to our friends and family who have supported us, prayed for us, sent cards, texts, phone calls, visits and brought food!!

Thanks also to these dear and special friends who helped enrich our parents’ lives over the past few years.  Your acts of kindness are greatly appreciated:
