Marjorie Mae (Oswald) Verbrugge

Marjorie Mae (Oswald) Verbrugge passed away quietly on February 1, 2020 in Overland Park, Kansas.  Marjorie was born on May 5, 1939 in Havre, Montana, eldest child of Henry and Margaret Oswald.  The family moved to Great Falls, Montana and then Sheridan, Wyoming.  In Sheridan, she attended Holy Name Catholic school and Sheridan High School.  In high school, she was part of the school newspaper and joined the Women’s club, serving as vice president.  Marjorie graduated from Sheridan High School’s 64th class in 1957. 

Following graduation, Marjorie attended St Mary’s College in Leavenworth, Kansas, as a business major.  During her time there she met Paul E. Verbrugge, whom she married on October 15, 1960.  The couple had three children, Patrice, Mark, and Nancy.  Marjorie was very proud that she completed a degree in Education from the University of Central Missouri.

Marjorie enjoyed a varied of activities and had a number of talents.  She was active in numerous social groups where she played cards and Mahjong.  A talented seamstress, she sewed all the bridesmaids’ gowns for Patrice’s wedding.  She assisted her grandchildren in learning to sew, play the piano and drive, including cars with a stick shift.  She particularly enjoyed traveling, especially with her grandchildren, both in and outside of the United States.  Always one to keep busy, she worked assisted friends by manning booths at craft and gift shows.  She served as a guide for a Kansas City bus tour company.  She worked for a number of years at American Century as a receptionist.

She is survived by three children; Patrice (John) Henn, Mark Verbrugge, Nancy (Randy) Gress; her brother Donald (Helen) and nine grandchildren.

Services

Funeral services will be St Pius X Catholic Church is Mission, KS on February 11, 2020.  Visitation at 9:00 will proceed the service at 10:00 am.
