Martha G. (Schollars) Halsel
It is with great sadness that the family of Martha G. (Schollars) Halsel announces her passing after a brief illness at KU Medical Center on January 25, 2019, at the age of 82 years. Martha was the fifth of eleven children born to Aaron John Schollars and Gertrude (Renner) Schollars. She graduated from Assumption Grade School and Cardinal Glennon High School, afterwards working as a waitress at Katz Drug Co. Martha married Raymond Halsel. She later worked as a keypunch operator and for several years in retail at Macy’s, Dillard’s and Hen House in Fairway, Ks.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children Maureen (Paul) Webb, Paul, Bill (Patricia), Kathy Neal, Patty (James) Bengel and Mike Halsel. Her surviving sisters Mary Jane Blincoe, D. Sue Mercier, Ann K. Barrett and Ruth E. Heaton, her six grandchildren Taylor (Dustin) Shepard, Eric (Latonia) Crockett, Jacob, Josh, Joey and Jackson Bengel, and 4 great grandchildren. Her siblings Doris, Bob, John, Billy, Fred and A.J Jr. and son Mark predeceased her.
A life-long native of Kansas City, Martha loved her family First, and then KU Basketball, KC Royals and KC Chiefs. Martha truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures; chatting with friends and family, watching a movie, cooking, and spending time with her family. She had an uncanny ability to reach people in a deep and positive way. Her ability to analyze personalities via handwriting was truly remarkable, and throughout her life, she always “did it my way.”
A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 8, 2019 at 2:00 p.m., at the Guardian Angels Catholic Church, 1310 Westport Road, Kansas City, MO, followed by a visitation.
