He attended St. Anthony’s Grade School, graduated from Bishop Ward High School, and earned a Bachelor of Science Printing Technology Degree from Pittsburg State University, Pittsburg, KS.
Mike was a member of Printers Union Local 16C, and worked at several Kansas City Area printing companies, among them Harmony Printing, American Litho, Ashcraft Printing, Lowell Press, Greystone Graphics and Prestige Litho, where he developed many lasting friendships.
On August 24, 1985 he married Marianne Miroslaw at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Kansas City, KS and they are blessed with a beautiful daughter, Carly Mantel.
Mike was an avid sports fan, who loved his KU Jayhawks, Kansas City Royals and Kansas City Chiefs. By far, his greatest sports pleasure was supporting Carly in her many athletic endeavors, whether it was on the field as a coach, or from the stands, as her biggest fan. He enjoyed the simple pleasures of family get-togethers at Gardner Lake, playing golf with his brothers, spending time with his sisters and he cherished his wife and daughter, along with his large extended family and a multitude of life-long friends.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents and his sister-in-law Mary Catherine. Left to treasure his memory are his wife of 34 years, Marianne, and daughter Carly, brothers Ken, Jim (Patty) and sisters Kathy Novosel (Mike), Maggie Stalzer (Ray), JoAnn Gilstrap (Mark); and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mike will be remembered for his ready smile and easy-going, fun-loving nature. Family and friends will treasure the memories of so many good times shared through the years. Mike was a life-long Catholic and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Shawnee, KS.
Mike’s family would like to thank everyone for their prayers, love, kindness and support. These special blessings have lifted us during our time of mourning.
