Ruth Rader (89) passed away peacefully at her Overland Park home on June 28, 2020.  She was born on November 23, 1930 in St. Louis MO, the daughter of John and Ruth Routon.  The family moved to Kansas City in 1941 and Ruth has lived in the area ever since.

Ruth graduated from Shawnee Mission Rural (North) High School in 1947 after which she attended the University of Kansas where she was a member of the Sigma Kappa sorority.  She has been a long time member of Country Club Christian Church where she has served as a deacon, a member of the Tri C’s Sunday School Class, and the Women’s Ministries Circle 17.  She was a Stephen’s Minister for several years.  Ruth was also a member of PEO, Missouri Chapter F, Psi Psi Psi, and Kansas City Alumnae of Sigma Kappa.

Ruth worked in the real estate field for over 30 years and during that time was the Executive Director of the Johnson County Board of Realtors and taught the pre-license class required by the state of Kansas.  After retiring from Chicago Title in 1991, she became a Greek House Director at both Baker University (Sigma Phi Epsilon and Delta Delta Delta) and later, the University of Kansas (Sigma Kappa).  Her final employment was at The Forum in Overland Park, a senior living community, where she was an evening receptionist.  She finally retired from all employment in 2017 at the age of 86.

Ruth leaves three children, sons John (Toni) Rader, Kent (Jennifer Finks) Rader and daughter Marci (Rand) Ziegler; three grandchildren, Lindsay Rader, Justin Ziegler and Karissa Ziegler; and one great grandchild, Reece Person.

Ruth was known to be selfless and giving and even in her last weeks before passing, many of her friends called and sent cards expressing how much her friendship meant to them.  She will be remembered as a loving, kind and caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to many.  She will be greatly missed by all of us.

Service

To celebrate Ruth’s life, a memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 11 at 9:30 am, outside of the Combs Chapel at Country Club Christian Church, located at 6101 Ward Parkway, Kansas City, MO.  Given the present environment, guests who feel comfortable attending are respectfully asked to wear face coverings and socially distance outside of the Columbarium area.  In Ruth’s honor, donations may be made to the Country Club Christian Church, or PEO Chapter F (for scholarships).

I was so blessed to have met this kind soul. We met years ago and she nominated me for a PEO grant. This grant helped me pursue my
degree as a single mother. I am now taking my final course and will think of her when I receive my diploma. She made a lasting impact on my life. Rest In Peace pretty lady.

Sending deepest sympathies to Ruth’s family and friends I was honored to call her my “Sister” in P.E.O. chapter F. Ruth was always hardworking, gracious and interested in others. We will miss her so much! God bless and bring you comfort during this difficult time

I first met Ruth at our Sigma Kappa House Corporation meetings. A few years after she completed her time on the sorority board she brought me into PEO Chapter F. I always looked forward to seeing her and talking with her at our meetings. She was very generous with her time and talent.

I am so sorry that Ruth is no longer with us. She was a magnificent caring person.
