Stacey Kristine Stewart Henzlik

Henzlik, Stacey

Stacey Kristine Stewart Henzlik, 50, of Olathe, KS, passed away April 28, 2019 at Nottingham Health and Rehabilitation with her mother by her side.

Preceding her in death were her father and grandparents. She is survived by her husband, Dale; mother, Jody; brother, Jason (Danyel Olson) of Madison, CT; nephews, Zachary, Reilly and Mason.

Stacey was born March 26, 1969 in Kansas City, MO to John and Jody (Wade) Stewart.

She attended Shawnee Mission schools and graduated from Shawnee Mission East High School. She was part of Lakemary Center’s independent residential living for 29 years. After various fast food jobs she worked at the YMCA in Olathe for 11 years before she retired due to Alzheimer’s.

Stacey married the love of her life, Dale Henzlik, in 2000. They had an amazing marriage full of fun, activity, and affection for each other. They loved to dance and travel. Dale proved to be a wonderful caretaker the last year they were able to live together and faithfully visited her at Nottingham where an incredible, loving staff took care of her the last year of her life.

Along with the staff at Nottingham, Stacey was blessed with care from her Crossroads Hospice “team” who were with her through the end.

Stacey was a joy to be around, a bright ray of sunshine, a delight, wherever she went. Her busy life included winning gold medals as a swimmer at an International Special Olympics, and being a speaker for Kansas Special Olympics. Every sport was her “favorite.” She won the Johnson County CLEAR’s speech contest several years and loved going to “college.” She enjoyed playing in the Sunflower Ringers bell choir at Church of the Resurrection with Dale and was not shy about telling people of her plans and accomplishments. She loved hamburgers, ketchup, chocolate, and wearing pink.

As well as participating in many sports she was also a huge fan of the Chiefs, the Royals, the old Kansas City Comets, Shawnee Mission South Soccer, and much to her K-State parents chagrin, the KU basketball team.

Sunday morning at Community Covenant church was a highlight of Stacey’s week: the people, the hugs, the music, the worship. She will be missed by many but has given us wonderful memories. She loved Jesus and now sees him face to face.

A celebration of her life will be held at 6pm Tuesday, May 7, 2019, at Community Covenant Church, 15700 W. 87th St., Lenexa, KS. Visitation will be held prior to the service at 5pm.

Jody, I miss Stacey so much. Thank you for always keeping in touch with me. She was my most bestest friend from the very beginning of my life and I will never forget her. I will always remember her sweet smile and sense of humor. I am so sorry I couldn’t be at the funeral, thank you for being able to livestream it to those of us who couldn’t be there. It was a beautiful service. Give Dale a big hug from me if you can. I will see you in a few weeks!

    Love, Amy

Jody I am so sorry for your loss. I remember helping Stacey and Dale prepare for marriage and it was a joy to read scripture at the wedding. On more than one occasion , throughout the years, many people commented on her charm! The last time I saw Stacey was at LMC. She came up to me, beaming as usual, she could not remember my name anymore but she smiled and said ” I like you”. Heaven is blessed today.

Dear Jody, what a triumphant life Stacey lived! She was blessed to have such a wonderful family. Fifty years was more than that the way Stacey lived, she gave 200% in everything she tackled. I was fortunate to get to know her and you. My heart goes out to you at this time and pray God will comfort you with His tender Presence as you adjust to her entrance into Glory, and your time before you will be all together as a family again with the LORD.
