Stephen (Steve) Michael Benton

Dad Obit Pic

Stephen (Steve) Michael Benton died January 4, 2020, in Overland Park, KS at the age of 68.

Steve is survived by his mother, Barbara (Bobbe) Benton; sister, Terrye Morgan; two children from his marriage to Sheran Casey (Kay); son, Sean Benton; daughter, Stacie Benton and grandson, Benton Lee. He is preceded in death by his father, Robert W. Benton.

Steve was born August 31, 1951, in Kansas City, KS to Robert and Barbara Benton. He graduated from Shawnee Mission South in 1970. His children remember him as a supportive, kind, loving, father who would move heaven and earth for them.

Steve excelled at diagnosing and fixing anything that had an engine. He was a car mechanic for most of his life; working on his 1966 GTO, and working at Baron BMW for 11 years. Previously, Steve sold high-end audio equipment at Sound Enterprise and Burstein Applebee. He also installed high-end sound systems at BrandsMart.  The stereos in any car Steve ever owned would blow your mind (and probably eardrums). In his spare time, Steve would be with family/friends, listening to music way too loud, and watching NASCAR. He loved nothing more than his two children and grandson.

Bobbe, I am so sorry to learn of your son, Steve’s, passing. He certainly looked like his father and had that same twinkle in his eyes as Bob did. I think of you often and our sailing days together. I did not pass the vision part of my drivers license test last November so my wings gave been clipped and the lead removed from that right foot!!!! I won’t be able to attend the celebration of his life on the 11th. Joe is still in Afghanistan. My thoughts and prayers will be with you and your family! All my love, Joanne Gardner
