Suzanne Nanette (Desjarlais) Wimp
Suzanne Nanette Wimp
Wife, Mother, Friend
Suzanne Nanette Desjarlais Wimp was called home to the LORD on Thursday, November 14, 2019. Suzanne was born June 13, 1950 to Joseph George and Margaret Lucille Desjarlais. Born and raised in Southern California, she graduated from Carmel High School in 1968. Suzanne left Carmel in 1968 and moved to San Francisco, CA; Colorado Springs, CO; Fort Leonard Wood, MO; McLouth, KS; and Merriam, KS.
Suzanne was blessed with the birth of her son, Jeremy Desjarlais, on October 11, 1975. In 1995, she married Stephen Wimp, and proceeded him in death. Also, upon her marriage, she gained two daughters, Renee Ratliff (Jimmy), and Donna Wimp. She was blessed with six grandchildren: Devan, Pamela, Jordan, Kirill (Rachel), David, and Evan and seven great-grandchildren.
Suzanne worked for the Department of Defense for 42 years. She retired from Army Medical Recruiting. For many of her years of service, she was honored for the excellent performance of her duties. She received numerous awards, plaques, and honors.
When she was not working, Suzanne was an avid reader. She enjoyed a variety of genres. She also enjoyed movies, but preferred action movies. Her greatest enjoyment came from travel – especially to Mexico. She visited Mexico numerous times, but she also visited many of the contiguous United States as well as Hawaii.
If given the choice, Suzanne always chose to be near the water, but was selective about what water. She loved the Pacific Ocean along the California coastline, but also enjoyed the Gulf of Mexico coastline of Florida. Several trips were made to Destin, FL to enjoy the beauty of the blue ocean.
She enjoyed being by or on the ocean, but once the movie Jaws was released, being in the ocean was not something she wanted. She eventually did step into the ocean up to her ankles, but never again swam in the ocean.
In 1975, she came to know the LORD. Once obedient to the Gospel, Suzanne was a faithful Christian and active member of the Church of Christ until death. Those who were lucky enough to know her knew of her deep and abiding love for the Lord.
Suzanne’s life will be remembered and celebrated at a memorial service on Saturday, November 23, 2019, at the Lenexa Church of Christ at 7845 Cottonwood at 11:00 a.m. The family will be at the Lenexa Church of Christ for visitation at 10:00 a.m. the same day.
Suzanne will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her. Should friends desire to express their sympathy, contributions may be sent to: Oskaloosa Church of Christ, PO Box 422, Oskaloosa, KS 66066.
