Velma Kathleen Ballentine
Velma “ Kathleen” Ballentine, 91, Prairie Village, KS, better known as “Mimi” to her grandchildren passed away peacefully on August 27, 2018. Born in 1926, she grew up in KC, MO and was the daughter of the late Merrel and Amma Cross.
Velma attended UMKC where she met the love of her life, Lawrence “Larry” Ballentine. They married in 1946 and had a son (Douglas) and a daughter (Lorrie).
Larry and Velma enjoyed their life in Prairie Village with friends and family. They enjoyed dancing to Big Band Music, road trips, long walks, and spending time working in their yard.
The grandchildren were blessed to live in the same neighborhood, thus making many fond memories with Mimi and Papa. Velma loved her family deeply and was always there for her children and grandchildren.
Velma was preceded in death by her husband Larry in 1992, her son Douglas in 2013, and her sister Lola Tanner in 2017. She leaves behind a daughter Lorrie Miller and her husband Patrick, and four loving granddaughters, Alexis Ballentine, Kelly O’Brien, Jessica Ballentine, and Nicole Schafer. She also has eight beautiful great-grandchildren which she adored.
The family would like to thank her Bickford family, Vitas Hospice, and The Village Presbyterian Church for their care and support.
Memorial service will be held at The Village Presbyterian Church Friday September 7, 2018 at 11:00 am (Mission Road and 67th St.).
