Zachary Ryan Johnson

Zachary Ryan Johnson of Hiawatha was born on October 18, 1985 in Atchison, KS. He passed away unexpectedly July 22, 2019; he lived in Hiawatha with his wife, Meghann (Stirton) Johnson, and three children Kinnley, Anniston, Dempsey, and his daughter Zyla of South Dakota.

He is survived by his mother, Lisa Johnson of Hiawatha and his father Michael Liechti (Heather) of Wathena. His siblings, Nathan (Ashlee) Simpson and Katie Liechti, brothers Blaine (Madi) Edwards, Gaige Olivero, Braydon Johnson, and sisters Kim (Josh) Mercer and KaliAnn Olivero. He is also survived by Grandma Mae Johnson and Grandma Kay Liechti.

He was preceded in death by Grandpa Ray Johnson, Grandpa Charles Liechti, and Aunt Brenda.

Zach was the light of every room. He had an inappropriate joke for every occasion. He loved to work in his garage on the Blazer or the four other projects he had going on at the same time.

More than anything, he was a beloved father and loved to spend time with his kids – making memories at Disney to playing in the backyard; every moment was special.

He will be sorely missed.

There will be a short visitation on Saturday July 27, 2019 from 10:00-11:00 am with a celebration of life to follow at the Fisher Center gym.

I was fortunate to have been one of Zach’s preschool teachers at Robinson’s Wolf River Childcare 30 years ago.

One afternoon, after his nap, Zach was sitting on my lap outside, waking up. I often road my black Yamaha Heritage motorcycle to the daycare, and it was parked in the driveway in view of Zach and me.

While hugging me and looking at my motorcycle Zach said, “Jim, my motorcycle is going to be red, and you and me are going to ride together all the time.”

I wish we had had the chance. I’ll miss you greatly, Zach.
